HOW GREEN INTERIOR DESIGN CREATES HEALTHIER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE WORKSPACES

Today, interior design is no longer focused only on aesthetics. It also considers how a space affects the environment and the well-being of the people who use it. In this context, green interior design has become an important approach in creating spaces that are healthier, more efficient, and more sustainable.

Green interior design is an approach that integrates environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and occupant health into the design process. This perspective aligns with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) in its Position Statement on Climate, Health, and Equity, which highlights the role of interior design in supporting human health, communities, and the environment (ASID, 2021).

In practice, green interior design is implemented through several key principles that support sustainable spaces. According to the U.S. Green Building Council in LEED v5 for Interior Design and Construction, these principles include the use of sustainable materials, improved indoor environmental quality, energy and water efficiency, responsible resource management, and a strong focus on occupant well-being (USGBC, 2025).

The use of environmentally responsible materials, such as low-emitting materials and recycled products, can help reduce the environmental impact of construction. In addition, factors such as indoor air quality, natural lighting, thermal comfort, and acoustic control play an important role in creating a healthy and comfortable indoor environment.

Arkadia Works applies the principles of green interior design in developing functional and sustainable workplaces. This approach prioritizes user comfort while improving energy efficiency, indoor air quality, lighting quality, and responsible material selection. Through this approach, office interior design becomes not only visually appealing but also healthier and more efficient for daily activities.

Arkadia Works projects demonstrate how this approach is implemented in real workplace environments. Arkadia Works Headquarters, for example, achieved 23% energy savings, 30% water savings, and 99% less embodied carbon in materials.

One of Arkadia Works’ projects , Concentrix Office in Yogyakarta, received the GREENSHIP Interior Space Platinum certification with 74 points, reflecting a strong implementation of sustainable principles in office interior design.

Meanwhile, the Auto2000 Wahid Hasyim Office in Jakarta also integrates sustainable strategies, resulting in 41% energy savings, 38% water savings, and 38% less embodied energy in materials.

Through these projects, Arkadia Works demonstrates that office interior design can go beyond aesthetics. By integrating sustainability principles into the design process, workplaces can become healthier, more efficient, and more supportive of both people and the environment.
